Art has been a joyful part of my life since I was a small child, and I am increasingly playing and working with different media and tools to revisit the art my five-year-old self would have loved. This involves a lot of letting go of what things “should” look like, of loosening control of the mark making, and paying close attention to the path the painting seems to want to take. In the words of Nicholas Wilton, it’s like following the “trail of breadcrumbs”. As I make a series of marks, I pause and pay attention to the feeling of where this will lead next. This means staying present as much as possible, and open to a path that may seem “ugly” at times, knowing that this is just a stage of the journey, a much-needed layer beneath what will follow. It has allowed me to relax and really enjoy my painting. I feel that this joy comes through in the work – at least that is my hope. The aim is to bring a smile to the viewer’s lips, perhaps a memory of innocent play and experimentation, of being wide open and present to life.

I live in the very beautiful city of Victoria, B.C. near the trees and the water. Nature, my family of cats and humans, flowers, bold colour and playful composition inspire me to paint and draw the way I feel about these things. Please enjoy my website.
